As Part of the Transatlantic Climate Bridge
The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (GACCoM), together with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany Chicago, invite you to the Annual Renewables & Energy Efficiency Roadshow. The Roadshow is presented as part of the “Transatlantic Climate Bridge” Initiative. At three different locations, we will cover several different topics from the Renewable Energy field. Each stop along the roadshow will feature an afternoon conference with top speakers from the field targeting specific locally topics as "Supply Chain in the Renewable Energy Industry" and "Energy Efficiency in Industry" followed by a networking reception.
Keynote speakers include among others, German Ambassador to the U.S. Dr. Klaus Scharioth; Matthias Machnig, State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nuclear Safety and Nature Conservation; and Mark Shanahan, Executive Director, Ohio Air Quality Development and Energy Advisor to Governor Ted Strickland of Ohio.

Transatlantic Program 2009 - Insights from the participantsThe TAP team successfully accomplished "phase 2" of TAP 2009 with the Interim Seminar in Cologne, where the students shared their experiences living and working in Germany and participated in intercultural training. Sabine Klensch said: "We have received very positive feedback regarding the internships assigned to students this year." Some of the participants presented their experience in Germany so far to the group. On our TAP website we posted some interesting stories from our current participants that give insights in their life in Germany. Frederick W. Hoffman Honored by German Government with the Federal Cross of MeritFrederick W. Hoffman, Special Advisor to the Governor for Economic Development and Special Projects, and former top official in Chrysler Corp. and GACCoM board member was honored by the German government with the Federal Cross of Merit – the highest award a non-German citizen can receive – for helping foster German-American relations.
State of Michigan
Hoffman, the honorary Consul General from Michigan to the Federal Republic of Germany, received the honor from Wolfgang Drautz, German Consul General in Chicago during a special ceremony at Dearborn City Hall, on Friday, June 19, 2009. The award was given on behalf of Federal President Horst Köhler.
"Fred was – and is – an outstanding representative of Germany in Michigan and he represents very well the American side in Germany,” Drautz said. Read more.

GACCoM Member JARC offers trainees 500 hours of hands on instruction The Careers in Manufacturing Program (CMP) at Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC) offers trainees 500 hours of hands on instruction and prepares unemployed adults to operate, set- up and program CNC milling and turning machines.
14 CMP students recently earned the CNC Milling Level 1 credential from the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS). To earn this credential, students must write a program, cut a part to very close specifications, and sit for a rigorous online exam. Many of JARC’s students have backgrounds in machine operating, shipping and receiving, production, assembly and maintenance, and may be suitable for a variety of positions. REpowerUSA Corp. moves corporate headquarters from Portland to Denver REpower USA Corp., the wholly-owned subsidiary of German wind energy manufacturer REpower Systems AG, will have a new US headquarters location beginning in early September. The US office for all administrative, sales and project management functions, previously located in Portland, Oregon, will move to Denver, Colorado.
Steve Dayney, CEO of REpower USA Corp., explains, "Since 2007, we have managed our US wind energy business from a Portland, OR office located near our initial projects in California, Oregon and Washington. Today we are seeing our business grow rapidly to other regions of the US." Read more.
