The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest, together with the German Ministry of Economics and Technology and the German Office for Foreign Trade (bfai), is organizing a bioenergy delegation to Germany. Germany is one of the world’s leading innovators in developing new bioenergy technologies, particularly for biogas, solid biomass and combined heat and power systems, and biodiesel plants. Only ten US companies will have the opportunity to take part in this delegation to travel to Germany and participate in individually-tailored meetings, while also attending the RENEXPO trade show. Participation is open to US companies involved in:

  • Engineering or construction of bioenergy systems
  • Bioenergy development or management
  • Production or sales of bioenergy-related systems or components.

Solid Biomass

German companies are world innovators in the provision of highly efficient technology in this area. By the end of 2006, around 160 plants with an electrical output of 960 MW were in operation. Well over one thousand biomass heating plants now supply heat to residential areas and numerous public properties are connected via local heating networks in Germany. The burning of solid biomass through a combined heat and power system (CHP), distributed through a local heating network, has proven to be an efficient energy source for large and small buildings in Germany.

Biogas

The trends of the biogas market have primarily been set by German companies and their leadership in the field of anaerobic digester technology. The range of products and services cover the entire value chain: from designing and building industrial and agricultural systems to operating and maintaining them. In 2006 alone, Germany installed 650 new Biogas systems, representing the increase in the number of plants to 3,500, with the volume of installed electrical capacity totaling around 1,100 MW. Germany has also constructed two pilot projects feeding biogas into the natural gas pipeline grid.

Biofuel

Production capacity of biodiesel in Germany has recently topped five million tons. Germany is the international leader in the field of multi-feedstock biodiesel production. German companies

have many years of experience in the field of biofuel manufacturing and offer globally tried and

tested engineering systems.
